Hello Friend 👋
Here are Seven Things I thought were worth sharing this week:
Creative AI: OpenAI’s release of the GPT-3 model is, without a doubt, one of the tech breakthroughs of the year. In essence, it allows computers to speak ‘human’ and unlocks all sorts of mindboggling applications related to language such as designing and programming software by simply writing down what you want it to create, translating legal documents into something you and I can understand, replying to questions with actual answers rather than search results, writing articles based on just a headline, and so much more. This video explains it in regular terms and features demos of the above applications. For you fellow nerds out there who love numbers, it was trained on 0.5B words and required 350GB in memory and $12 million worth of computing power to run.
Creative AI: Be mesmerized by Refik Anadol Studio’s AI Data paintings.
Entertainment: The Moment is a brain-controlled film the plot and score of which change in response to a viewer’s brain activity - a bit like a future version of Netflix’s Bandersnatch. Here’s to hoping that its tour will continue in the future for us all to have a try. (Thanks for sharing, Aleksandra!)
Networking: I received an invite to join Lunchclub and so far, I’ve been having a great time meeting inspiring people outside of my bubble. It’s easy to set preferences and set up meetings. If you’re curious and would like an invite, reply to this email. (Thanks Abhi!)
Writing: On my first Lunchclub call, I was again asked about how I come up with ideas for my various content outlets, so I wrote about how it’s all inspired by solving my own problems.
Reading: All this chatting to ambitious people in Tech reminded me of the brilliant satire blog The Leveraged Sellout - the piece on The Founder Hounder in particular. Warning - this kind of humour might not be for everyone. Go ahead. Judge me.
