Hello Friend 👋
Here are Seven Things I was curious about this week:
Leadership: In times of crisis, some tend to turn off their emotions and coldly execute. But this is not the time to lower empathy with colleagues. This HBR article on how to be more compassionate with teammates makes for good reading.
Inclusive Design: How many times have you said to yourself that you should design more inclusive experiences, and then actually followed through on it? The Microsoft Inclusive Design Toolkit lends a helping hand. The short film Inclusive that’s featured here is actually quite inspirational too.
Design systems: Atlassian updated their design system. If you are working on your own, you can get resources and components for Figma, Sketch, and other tools from their website.
DesignOps: The hype around DesignOps may have died down somewhat, but the practice is still very much alive and needed. It’s worth re-reading the basics at NielsenNorman.
Self-driving cars: Maybe the biggest hurdle self-driving cars will have to overcome is not tech, but legislation. Progress is being made though, as the UK is set to allow lane-keeping tech as early as next year.
Controversial AI: As an AI beats an F-16 jet pilot in a simulation, concerns over its use in warfare flare up again.
Personal: I’m getting a puppy! I know, I know. Who cares, right? But… look at that little guy! 😍 It’s all a bit overwhelming, but thankfully there are lots of good books and YouTube channels out there to help.
