Hello Friend 👋
This week I’ve seen a multitude of people taking on some mighty big problems with their creativity and drive to improve the world, be it remote working in lockdown, issues faced by disabled people and dreaming up future tech at university, or the legacy left behind by a late hero. Here are these and other things I wanted to share this week:
Design: My alma mater continues to churn out world-changing innovations and incredibly talented designers. If you need some inspiration this week, look no further than their digital degree show.
Product spotlight: It’s been about time someone takes on the multitude of issues around video calls and remote working. The team behind the platform-independent app mmhmm seem to have nailed most of them. Get on the waitlist.
Inspiring people: I learned about the story of Victoria Heathcote this week. The late marketing expert was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and spent her final months on a media campaign to raise awareness, so the next generation would have a better chance. The video is incredible in its effectiveness and simplicity. Her husband is now raising funds in her memory - head over to the campaign page to learn more about her story.
Design ❤️ Data Science: A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of hosting the first AIXD Meetup. Our guests talked about why and how designers and data scientists can and should work together. If you missed it, you can now watch the recording on YouTube. We also already have the next event in the works so join the Meetup group to stay in the loop.
Creative AI: After the hype over computers inventing people, cats, and art, we now have one coming up with new fake words and their lexicon entries. It reminded me of Dave Gorman’s episode about how Twitter is changing the way we talk.
Just for fun: Are you tired of looking out the same window every day? This weekend, swap your window with someone else.
One favour 🙏: I’m trying to better understand how people interact with podcasts (not just my own). Please do me a huge favour and fill in this quick and anonymous survey.
