👋 Hi there,
What’s that?! Seven Things on a Sunday? I must be nuts, right? I know, it’s weird. You see, I decided to make this humble little outlet of mine an irregular occurrence in your inbox. The idea is that by only sending this email each time I’ve found a set of seven extraordinarily thought-provoking, inspiring, or otherwise share-worthy things I’ll build a repository of higher quality references for you and for me. This week, it took me a day longer. Maybe it’ll be a month next time. Who knows? But I hope you’ll love it whenever it does arrive. Let me know how it goes.
So here are Seven Things I was curious about recently:
Design: Whenever I’m in an argument about why a certain user request should not be implemented right away, I draw on the wisdom of Neil Gaiman: “Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong.”
Data Visualisation: Nivo is a React library that makes it easier to add interactive data visualisations to your project, and incidentally also serves as design inspiration.
Data Visualisation: A data visualisation showing the ~3000 still active satellites by country & orbit
Animation: Stunning, magical stop-motion animations by Hoji Tsuchiya
Communication: This sentence has five words is a description and example in one on how adding rhythm to your writing can make it tons more compelling.
Photography / Essay: Teju Cole on photographing Switzerland, instead of adding to the “endless books about Mexico”
Inspiring People: Şevval from Turkey is on a mission to share wisdom from the older female generation for a better, more sustainable life. Her latest video on making apple cider vinegar had me dream of a simpler life.
