Here are Seven Things that formed the Pareto Principle of my leisure time this week:
With the estimates for when things will return to normal ranging so widely, I have been reminded of the importance of being flexible. Refusing to wish away the time until that moment does finally come, I have now placed myself firmly in the Acceptance phase of grief.
At one point, I really just wanted to shake things up: buy new stuff and change the way I work. After some soul-searching, I concluded that most times new isn’t better.
Continuing with the travel theme from last week, I found the New Yorker feature on the past, present, and future of the overnight train interesting and soothing to listen to at the same time - especially while kneading sourdough.
Doing what I do, I normally don’t enjoy the chastising of technology, which is why it surprises me that I want to recommend the New York Times’ podcast Rabbit Hole, which explores “what the internet is doing to us”. I started listening to it this week and thought the views from people who are actually involved in building the internet, as well as the unusual way the show is produced, make it noteworthy. Listen to episode one and hear what I mean.
Speaking of rabbit holes, when I needed some serious cheering up last week (nothing much happened, other than… you know… everything) this and similar videos sorted me out with about an hour of laughter.
I got very upset and thinking about how to balance confidence and humility when highly talented folks told me they didn’t feel like they had anything worth sharing. This is why I’m thinking…
